Powerstar batteries are SLA (Sealed Lead Acid) factory sealed, offering a true sealed and maintenance-free design. The AGM design is liquid-free, preventing leaks or corrosion. AGM batteries also produce more discharge current (cold cranking amperage) and recharge faster, with better resistance to heat and vibration, and a much slower self-discharge rate.

The Absorptive Glass Mat (AGM) system in Powerstar batteries utilizes fine mat separators made of glass fiber, where sufficient electrolyte is absorbed to provide the longest life and steady service. This system prevents the escape of electrolyte from the separator, which causes leakage.

During the expected floating service life of Powerstar batteries, there is no need to check the specific gravity of the electrolyte or add water, as they require no maintenance service. The heavy-duty lead calcium-alloy grids in Powerstar batteries provide an extra margin of performance and service life in both float and cyclic applications, even in conditions of deep discharge.

Powerstar batteries have an excellent charge acceptance and recovery capability, even after deep discharge. Their low-pressure venting system operates at 1psi to 6psi, designed to release excess gas and reseal automatically in the event that gas pressure rises to a level above the normal rate. This, coupled with the extraordinarily high recombination efficiency, makes Powerstar batteries the safest sealed lead-acid batteries available.
